Bulgaria enters the new wheat season with a strong export position, supported by growing shipments to third countries and expanding presence in the MENA region. According to UkrAgroConsult, this trend is reshaping the country’s role in global trade.

Export potential is estimated at 4–6 M mt, while domestic consumption remains near 1.5 M mt, forming a stable export surplus and positioning Bulgaria as a key supplier.

At the same time, export structure is becoming more concentrated. Algeria’s share has reached close to 60%, increasing dependence on a single destination and raising sensitivity to changes in demand or trade policies.

Export pace in the current season shows signs of slowdown, with shipments reaching about 3.7 M mt by April, while stocks remain elevated near 2.5 M mt, forming pressure for the upcoming season.

UkrAgroConsult highlights that the next season will combine high stocks with potential production risks, shaping a market where opportunities and competition coexist.

Export dynamics reflect growth in shipments to third countries over recent seasons. Destination structure highlights strong concentration toward North Africa markets. Stock and export balance indicates pressure from carry-over volumes into the next season.

Key trends

  • Strong export surplus supports market
  • High dependence on MENA buyers
  • Concentration risk in export structure
  • Elevated stocks influence new season
  • Competition intensifies in nearby markets
  • Market driven by both demand and risk factors
