Brazil’s second corn crop harvest outpaces last year

As of July 2, Brazil had harvested 30% of its 2025/26 second corn crop, according to consultancy AgRural. The figure increased from 22% a week earlier and exceeded the 28% recorded during the same period last year.

The faster harvest is accelerating the arrival of new-crop corn to the market and reinforcing expectations of larger global supplies. This is already putting pressure on spot prices as buyers anticipate ample grain availability in the coming months.

Expectations of a strong harvest are also weighing on futures markets. On the Dalian Commodity Exchange, corn futures remained under pressure, with the January 2027 contract falling by 3 yuan to 2,282 yuan/t on July 7, while the March 2027 contract closed unchanged at 2,290 yuan/t.
