Brazilian Poultry Exports Surge During First Half of 2023
Brazil produced record soybean and corn crops in 2022/23 and now they are reporting record exports of poultry and pork thus far in 2023. Brazil is the largest poultry exporter in the world and exports continued to surge during the first half of 2023.
During the first six months of 2023, Brazil exported 2.629 million tons of poultry which was up 8.5% compared to 2022 according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). The surge was pushed by big importers such as China, Japan, South Africa, and Saudia Arabia.
China continues to be the largest importer of Brazilian poultry with 390,700 tons between January and June of 2023 (+33%) followed by Japan at 219,800 tons (+8.5%), United Arab Emirates at 200,100 tons (-18.3%), South Africa at 189,700 tons (+16.5%), and Saudia Arabia at 176,800 tons (+8.4%).
In June alone, Brazil exported 446,200 tons of poultry, which was up 3.2% compared to a year earlier.
Pork exports have also surged in early 2023. Brazilian pork exports during the first half of 2023 were up 15.6% to 589,800 tons. China accounted for 214,400 tons (+17.1%) or 36.% of Brazil’s pork exports and 14.8% of Brazil’s poultry exports during the first half of 2023.
