Brazil to increase soybean area for 2025/26 crop by almost 500 thsd ha

Brazilian farmers are ready to expand the soybean acreage by about 500 thsd ha in 2025/26 season, which will start in September in the key growing regions, said Andre Pessoa, the president of the consulting company Agroconsult, Reuters reports.
Thus, Brazil will expand the acreage under soybeans for the 19th consecutive season in 2025/26 MY, Reuters commodity analyst Karen Brown said.
According to Agroconsult estimates, Brazilian farmers planted a record 47.8 mln ha of soybeans this season.
The result was a high harvest, as Brazilian farmers harvested an unprecedented 172.1 million tons of soybeans, Agroconsult reported in March after the completion of a national crop tour of the fields.
Most of the Brazilian soybeans are shipped to China, which is currently in the middle of a trade war with the United States.
Pessoa noted that Brazilian farmers are expected to plant more soybeans, despite the fact that they are also expected to plant more first-crop corn in the summer. With the start of the new season, corn will compete with soybeans for space in some parts of southern Brazil.
“We will see further growth in soybean acreage in Brazil,” Pessoa said of the upcoming season, adding that it will be more noticeable in the central-western and northeastern parts of Brazil, which is the world’s largest exporter and producer of soybeans.
However, he warned that the growth of soybean acreage in Brazil will not match the pace of previous years, when it grew by 2 million hectares in one season.
