Brazil: Soybean Harvest Slow in Mato Grosso, Yields Second Highest
Wet weather continues to slow the soybean harvest in Mato Grosso, but it is also resulting in higher yields. As of last Friday, farmers in Mato Grosso had harvested 12.2% of their 2024/25 soybeans compared to 39.3% last year according to the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea).
Farmers are harvesting their soybeans between showers and at high moisture levels to guarantee that the crop is put in storage before more rain keeps them out of the field. The high moisture soybeans need to be dried to 13-14% moisture to ensure good quality. The problem is that many grain elevators do not have enough drying capacity to accommodate large quantities of high moisture soybeans resulting in long lines of trucks waiting to unload soybeans.
Imes is estimating the statewide soybean yield at 62.07 sacks per hectare (55 bu/ac), which is up 19% compared to last year’s drought impacted crop and up 7% compared to last month. If verified, this would be the second highest yields recorded in Mato Grosso.
