Brazil boosts soybean oil exports to three-year high
Brazil’s soybean export volumes in May exceeded analyst expectations and rose compared to the same period last year, reaching 14.83 million (14.10 million) tons, according to Oil World (Germany).
In January-May 2026, Brazilian soybean exports reached a record 55.1 million tons, 6.8%, or 3.55 million tons, higher than the same period last year. Although China remains the leading buyer of Brazilian soybeans, its share of total exports declined from 74% to 69%. Actual shipments to China, however, remained virtually unchanged at 38.1 million tons.
Brazil also significantly increased shipments to the EU – by 1 million tonnes to 4.51 million tonnes; Turkey – by 0.8 million tonnes to 2.06 million tonnes; Thailand – by 0.5 million tonnes to 1.69 million tonnes; and Pakistan – by 0.4 million tonnes to 1.35 million tonnes.
The country’s soybean oil exports from January to May reached 924,000 tonnes, the highest in three years and 43% higher than last year’s level. Of this volume, 663,000 tonnes were shipped to India (+44% year-on-year).
Soybean meal shipments also increased, reaching a record 10.2 million tonnes in the first five months of this year, thanks to increased domestic soybean processing.
