Beans are the second most popular pulses crop, with an increase of 20% in acreage
In Ukraine, the area under beans for the 2024 harvest amounted to more than 50 thou hectares, up 20% year-on-year.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine clarifies that after peas, beans are the second most popular pulses planted by Ukrainian farmers.
“In 2022, the area under beans decreased by more than 20% compared to 2021. However, in the next two years, Ukrainian farmers managed to restore the area under the crop to the pre-war level,” says Taras Vysotskyi, Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
The main bean crops are concentrated in the western (Khmelnytsky, Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk) and central (Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr) regions of Ukraine. These 5 regions account for over 55% of the total bean production in the country.
