Average wheat yield in Azerbaijan is planned to be increased to 5 t/ha by 2030

The average wheat yield is planned to reach 5 tons per hectare by 2030, Niyazi Amirbekov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Grain Producers and Processors Association, told the APA news agency.

According to him, this goal will be achieved through activities to be carried out in specialized districts. He also emphasized that developing grain farming and increasing self-sufficiency in wheat are among the priority objectives.

To achieve this goal, modern irrigation systems are planned, crop cultivation efficiency is increased, and land resources are restored. At the same time, grain elevators will be built and supply chains optimized, Amirbekov added.

“This large-scale program, which ensures the transition from traditional agriculture to a modern and technological production model, will significantly contribute to the growth of economic activity in the regions, the creation of new jobs, and the improvement of the social well-being of rural areas,” he emphasized.

In a May 2026 comment to Report, Agriculture Minister Majnun Mammadov also announced plans to increase the yield of milling wheat from three to five tons per hectare. He noted that Azerbaijan continues to expand farmers’ cultivated area.
