Argentine achieved a record in February in beef exports, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of the southern nation. Sales abroad reached 82,548 equivalent tons of bone-in beef, which surpassed a mark from 57 years ago.

The cumulative total for the two-month period January – February 2024 also set a record with sales that reached 160,000 tons.

“These numbers confirm a trend of sustained growth in beef exports, driven by a change in export policy implemented by the National Government”, the agency said in a statement.

It is worth remembering that during the mandate of former President Alberto Fernández, a ban was established on the sale of seven popular cuts of meat abroad: roast with or without bone, skirt, matambre, tapa de asado, buttock, and shoulder.

Regarding this, the agency led by Fernando Vilella added that this policy change has placed a strong emphasis on adding value to livestock chains, especially in the beef sector. “This strategy has proven to be effective, opening new opportunities in the international market and returning Argentine to its role as a key player in the meat industry worldwide”, he added.

He then highlighted that “the growth in beef exports not only benefits Argentine producers and exporters, but also has a positive impact on the country’s economy as a whole. The increase in sales abroad generates additional income that is reinvested in the development of the local industry, thus creating a virtuous cycle of growth and development”.

The main destination of Argentine meat exported is China with 75.5% of the volume, while the European Union takes 7.9%, Israel 7.1%, Chile 3.3% and the United States 2.8%.
