Argentina boosts sunflower oil and meal exports amid record harvest
In June 2025, exports of sunflower oil and meal from Argentina increased significantly due to a record sunflower harvest and active seed processing, Oil World reports.
Sunflower oil export:
· In June – 127 thousand tons versus 67 thousand tons in June 2024.
· Main destinations: India – 60 thousand tons (27 thousand a year ago), Iraq – 33 thousand tons (0 thousand a year ago).
· For January–June 2025: 660 thousand tons (compared to 550 thousand tons last year and 491 thousand tons on average over 5 years).
· Other buyers: Chile, USA, Colombia, UAE, Australia.
Export of sunflower meal:
· In June – 146 thousand tons (94 thousand tons last year), of which 105 thousand tons were shipped to the EU.
· For January–June: 680 thousand tons , which is 136 thousand tons more than in 2024, of which 545 thousand tons are exports to the EU.
Yield and market impact:
· In the MY 2024/25, Argentina harvested 5.1 million tons of sunflower (+1.2 million tons compared to the previous season, +0.8 million tons compared to the 5-year average).
· Average yield increased to a record 2.24 t/ha .
Increased exports from Argentina are already putting pressure on the prices of Ukrainian sunflower oil and meal, especially in key markets such as India and the EU. Argentine products are now competing with Ukrainian products on price, sometimes even offering lower value.
