After June 5, Ukraine’s trade terms with the EU will return to pre-war levels

The European Union will not continue the current mechanism for trade liberalization with Ukraine after June 5, 2025. This was reported to “European Pravda” on condition of anonymity by one of the European officials familiar with the progress of trade negotiations between Ukraine and the EU.
The European official emphasized that after June 5, 2025, when the current autonomous trade measures end, trade conditions will return to pre-war ones.
At the same time, then the EU, together with the Ukrainian side, will propose some changes favorable to Ukraine.
“Starting from June 6, autonomous trade measures – trade preferences for Ukraine, introduced by the EU after the start of full-scale aggression by the Russian Federation, will end. The conditions will return to pre-war ones. Both trade preferences and restrictive measures currently imposed against a number of products, such as chicken meat, eggs, honey, and so on, will end,” the source told the publication.
According to him, the idea of maintaining trade preferences for some Ukrainian exports to the EU, such as steel, is being discussed.
“The European Union will then continue discussions on amending Article 29 of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU in order to develop trade conditions that are most beneficial for both sides and support the Ukrainian economy, which is suffering from the war,” the European official added.
