Afghanistan has become heavily dependent on Russian flour
Afghanistan is heavily dependent on Russian flour. This was reported by Kirill Pavlov, a Kazakh expert in agriculture. He cited analysts’ data, according to which Russia has significantly increased flour exports in 2024.
Afghanistan remains the main buyer of Russian flour. In the period from January to July 2024, the volume of supplies to this country increased more than 5 times, reaching almost 270 thousand tons.
This trend started in the fall of 2023 and continues to gain momentum. In April 2024, a record monthly volume of exports to Afghanistan was recorded – more than 65 thousand tons.
“Such dynamics reflects the growing dependence of the Afghan market on Russian flour supplies, which may be associated with internal socio-economic changes in the country and limited access to other food sources,” the expert believes.
Recall that on August 15, 2021, the radical Islamist movement “Taliban” came to power in Afghanistan.
