According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for 2020, the level of consumption of this product in Ukraine is 126 kg per person per year. In this indicator, the country is second only to Belarus, where annual consumption reaches 170 kg per person. Overall, the published figures highlight persistent regional differences, with the highest levels of consumption recorded in Eastern European countries.

This is reported by FreshPlaza.

Neighboring Poland and Romania record figures at 100 kg per person per year. Consumption also remains relatively high in some parts of Northern Europe, in particular in Latvia it is 83 kg, in Finland – 63 kg, in Estonia – 62 kg, and in Sweden – 57 kg.

In Western Europe, annual potato consumption is 93 kg in the Netherlands, 89 kg in Belgium, 67 kg in Germany and 66 kg in the United Kingdom. Southern European countries report lower levels overall. Spain and Portugal both record 58 kg per person per year, while Italy is even lower. The lowest consumption levels in Europe are recorded in Cyprus at 15 kg per person, followed by Bulgaria at 26 kg and Malta at 28 kg.

The data reflects the potato’s continued role as a staple food in many European markets, particularly in Eastern Europe, where consumption remains significantly higher than the continental average.
