Zelenskyy warns of possible global grain market crisis in 2-3 months

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned of a potential crisis in the global grain market within the next 2-3 months. He made the statement during the Warsaw Security Forum, according to RBC-Ukraine.

“Everyone is talking about diesel, but no one is talking about grain — there will be a crisis in 2-3 months,” Zelenskyy stressed, noting that the international community has focused on fuel supplies while overlooking risks to the grain market.

The president also raised the issue of potential cooperation between the United States and Russia on diesel fuel supplies. According to him, Ukraine has significant influence over the operation of Russian oil infrastructure and vessel movements. “Why doesn’t America make a diesel deal with Ukraine? We influence whether these ships move. We determine whether Russian oil refineries operate,” he said.

At the same time, Zelenskyy expressed doubts that the volumes of diesel fuel offered by Russia could significantly affect the global market. According to him, the proposed supplies range from 300 to 500 thsd tonnes per month, while global consumption stands at around 120 mln tonnes per month. The president suggested that other factors may be behind decisions regarding such cooperation.

Zelenskyy’s remarks came after US President Donald Trump announced an “energy ceasefire” between Ukraine and Russia on October 11. Trump said both sides had agreed but did not specify when the arrangement would take effect. Zelenskyy later reported that Russia had violated the agreement and said Ukraine was ready to sign ceasefire guarantees.
