World sunflower export this year will be a record
Experts from the Hamburg-based analytical agency OilWorld (Germany) believe that global sunflower trade this year will exceed 5 million tons, which will be a record figure for the market. Last year, global oilseed exports were estimated at 2.2 million tons.
According to experts, such a noticeable increase was due to Ukraine, which this season reoriented from the sale of finished products (oil and meal) to the supply of raw materials, since there is a serious energy crisis in the country that impedes the operation of oil refineries.
According to preliminary forecasts, 2.7 million tons of seeds will be exported from the country this year compared to 0.1 million tons in 2021 and 0.2 million tons in 2020.
“The largest volumes of Ukrainian sunflower were delivered to Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Turkey. Thus, the EU doubled imports of sunflower seeds this year, up to 2.2 million tons, having activated it since April,” says OilWorld (Germany) in a report.
