The area sown under grain and pulse crops in farms of all categories in Russia in 2025 decreased compared to the previous year by 5.05% to 43.796 million hectares, in particular under winter grains by 2.77% to 17.011 million hectares, and under spring grains and legume crops by 6.39% to 26.785 million hectares, according to Rosstat.

Compared to 2024, the total area under wheat decreased by 5.62% to 26.904 million hectares, rye – by 32.52% to 451 thousand hectares, barley – by 4.4% to 6.653 million hectares, and grain corn – by 1.39% to 2.588 million hectares.

At the same time, the area under leguminous crops increased by 4.89% to 4.105 million hectares, although the area under peas decreased by 2.77% to 2.159 million hectares.

Also in 2025, the area sown with oilseeds increased by 11.69% to 21.065 million hectares, in particular, under sunflower – by 13.21% to 11.043 million hectares, soybean – by 10.18% to 4.731 million hectares, rapeseed – by 8.6% to 2.96 million hectares.

The SovEcon agency increased its forecast for the wheat harvest in the Russian Federation in 2025 by 1.9 million tons to 85.2 million tons after Rosstat published data on sowing areas.

IKAR experts have increased the forecast for the wheat harvest in the Russian Federation by 0.5 million tons to 84.5 million tons, and together with the occupied Ukrainian territories it may reach 87 million tons due to better yields in the center and the Volga region.

According to Rosstat, in 2023 the Russian Federation harvested 92.8 million tons of wheat, and in 2024 – 82.6 million tons.

Prices for Russian wheat with 12.5% protein remain at $235-237/t FOB, which is higher than a year ago, as the winter wheat harvest in the south has decreased, as in Ukraine, so as spring wheat is harvested in the east of the Russian Federation, prices may fall.
