Wheat production in Pakistan’s Rabi 2025–26 season is estimated at 29.31 million tonnes, cultivated over an area of 9.385 million hectares. The estimate was presented at a meeting of the Federal Committee on Agriculture (FCA), which also reviewed the performance of the Rabi season and set targets for the upcoming Kharif season.

The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain. The committee reviewed major crop performance and emphasized the need to improve productivity to ensure food security.

For the Kharif 2026–27 season, production targets were set at 9.17 million tonnes for rice, 9.77 million tonnes for maize, 80.3 million tonnes for sugarcane, and 9.64 million bales for cotton.

The committee also reported that water availability at canal headworks is expected to reach 67.45 million acre-feet. Despite improved conditions due to rainfall in March and early April, soil moisture remains under pressure following earlier dry months, while weather-related risks could still affect harvesting operations.

It was also noted that expected rainfall in April–May and rising temperatures in northern regions may improve reservoir levels. However, isolated heavy rain, hailstorms, and strong winds remain a risk for the agricultural sector during the harvest period.

Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
