Wheat, corn and soybeans fell in Chicago on Wednesday

Wheat, corn and soybean futures on the CBOT closed lower on Wednesday, September 30, following the release of quarterly NASS grain stocks data in the United States. Corn posted the sharpest decline, with the December contract down 4.07% to $197.15/t.

December SRW wheat futures in Chicago fell by 17 cents to $6.75¾/bu, or $248.29/t. The market declined despite U.S. wheat stocks as of September 1 coming in at 1.846 bln bushels, down 288 mln bushels from a year earlier and below market expectations.

Corn came under heavier pressure after NASS reported stocks well above expectations. U.S. corn inventories as of September 1 were estimated at 2.095 bln bushels, up from 1.551 bln bushels a year earlier and 184 mln bushels above traders’ expectations.

Soybean futures also ended lower, with the November contract falling to $12.93/bu, or about $475.09/t. U.S. soybean stocks at the end of the 2025/26 MY totaled 315 mln bushels, down 10 mln bushels year-on-year and below analysts’ forecasts. USDA also reported a private sale of 105 thsd tons of soybeans to unknown destinations.

European grain markets also moved lower on Euronext/MATIF. December milling wheat fell to €236/t, or $267.67/t, down 0.36%, while November corn declined to €264.25/t, or $299.71/t, 1% below the previous close.
