Wheat, corn and soybean futures on the Chicago Board of Trade ended lower on Thursday, September 24. December wheat futures fell 0.21% to $259.77/t, corn declined 0.28% to $207.68/t, while November soybean futures slipped 0.04% to $484.09/t.

Wheat was pressured by weaker-than-expected US export sales. In the week ending September 17, US wheat sales totaled 267.6 thsd tons. Mexico, Japan and Vietnam were the main buyers. At the same time, expected rainfall across US grain-growing regions could improve soil moisture, although it may slow planting.

Corn futures also declined amid moderate demand and expectations of wetter weather across the central US. Weekly US corn export sales reached 838.3 thsd tons, with Japan, Mexico and Colombia accounting for the largest purchases.

Soybean futures posted smaller losses than grains. US soybean export sales totaled 582.4 thsd tons for the week, including 311.8 thsd tons purchased by China. USDA also reported a separate sale of 120 thsd tons of new-crop soybeans to China.

European wheat prices also moved lower. December MATIF wheat futures fell to €237.50/t. Meanwhile, Coceral cut its 2026 soft wheat production forecast for the EU and the UK to 137.5 mln tons and its corn forecast to 48.6 mln tons due to the negative impact of hot and dry weather.
