Wheat and soybeans rise while corn falls in Chicago on Wednesday
Wheat and soybean futures rose in Chicago on Wednesday, September 16, while corn prices declined. December SRW wheat futures settled at $268.50/t, up 0.31%, November soybeans gained 0.13% to $485.19/t, while December corn fell 0.28% to $210.33/t.
Wheat was supported by expectations of tighter supply. Statistics Canada estimates Canada’s wheat production in MY 2026/27 at 36.12 mln tons, down 10.9% year on year. The market is also factoring in lower French export forecasts and reduced wheat shipments from the Black Sea region.
Soybean futures extended gains ahead of new USDA export sales data. Analysts expect US soybean sales for the week ending September 10 at 0.9–2.4 mln tons. Meanwhile, Canada’s soybean crop is forecast at 7.456 mln tons, up 7.8% from a year earlier.
Corn, by contrast, came under pressure. The December Chicago contract fell to $5.34¼/bu. Traders expect US corn export sales for the week at 0.7–2 mln tons, while Canadian corn production is forecast at 16.55 mln tons, up 11.3% year on year.
In Europe, wheat also moved higher, with December MATIF futures rising 1.37% to €244.50/t. November corn was almost unchanged at €262/t.
