Weather conditions support winter grain filling in Ukraine

Agrometeorological conditions during the first ten days of June 2026 were generally favorable for crop development across Ukraine, thanks to moderate temperatures and regular rainfall.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

According to the report, temperature conditions during the first summer decade were close to seasonal norms in most regions due to fluctuations between daytime and nighttime temperatures.

“Maximum air temperatures rose to +28–32°C, while nighttime temperatures remained somewhat low for early summer. At the beginning of the decade, short-term late frosts were still recorded at a height of 2 cm in northern areas of the northwestern, northern, and central regions due to an intrusion of Arctic air,” experts noted.

Rainfall during the period ranged from light and moderate showers in southern, eastern, and some central regions to heavy and prolonged precipitation in western and northern areas, where some districts received half or more of their monthly rainfall norm within a single day. Thunderstorms, hail, and locally strong wind gusts were observed across much of the country.

The Hydrometeorological Center reported that productive soil moisture reserves under most crops remained sufficient or satisfactory across the majority of agricultural land. However, due to the uneven distribution of rainfall, which often occurred as localized showers and downpours, soil moisture levels in some areas declined to insufficient or unsatisfactory levels.

Mass flowering of winter crops progressed slowly due to the prevailing temperature regime, while adequate soil moisture and periodic rainfall created favorable conditions for grain formation and filling.
