Warsaw, Krakow and Katowice airports introduce SAF into their fuel range
Aircraft departing from Warsaw, Krakow and Katowice airports can now be fuelled with sustainable aviation fuel SAF after ORLEN added the fuel to its commercial portfolio. The new type of aviation fuel significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions during both production and combustion.
The addition of SAF to the aviation fuel portfolio marks another step in implementing the carbon neutrality strategy. Companies are expanding their product portfolio in response to the need to decarbonise operations on both the supply and demand sides.
By introducing SAF to its commercial offer, ORLEN also meets the requirements of the EU Aviation Regulation ReFuel, which stipulates that the share of biofuels in the aviation industry must account for at least 2% of total jet fuel sales in 2025.
The regulation applies to airports in the European Union that handled more than 800,000 passengers and 100,000 tonnes of cargo in the previous year.
As previously reported, at least 43 airlines have already committed to using around 13 million tonnes of SAF by 2030, with new supply agreements being announced regularly. The main ingredient in the production of SAF remains used cooking oil.
