Vietnam becomes the largest buyer of Argentine soybean meal
Vietnam has become the largest importer of Argentine soybean meal, overtaking Malaysia and Indonesia among Asian buyers. The increase in shipments is linked to stronger trade ties and growing demand from the country’s livestock sector.
In 2025, Argentina’s soybean complex remained the country’s largest agricultural export sector, generating around $21.44 bln in revenue. This was 9.2% higher than a year earlier and accounted for 24.6% of Argentina’s total merchandise exports.
By value, China was the largest market for Argentine soybean products at $4.79 bln. India ranked second with $3.72 bln, while Vietnam was third with $1.6 bln.
Argentina remains one of the world’s leading suppliers of soybean products. In 2024, the country accounted for 48.3% of global soybean oil exports and ranked second in soybean meal exports after Brazil, with a 21.7% share.
Argentine soybean meal was previously shipped mainly to European markets, but new trade agreements and changing demand patterns are shifting exports toward Southeast Asia. Vietnam is becoming a key destination due to strong demand for soybean meal from the livestock and food industries.
