Serhiy Gedz, head of the vegetable seed sales department at Syngenta, said during the Intensive Vegetable Growing forum that in 2025 the volume of the Ukrainian vegetable seed market in money terms was greater than in 2021, before the full-scale Russian invasion. Despite the war, the figure reached over $40 million due to farmers switching to expensive hybrid breeding.

This is reported by AgroTimes.

The market growth in monetary terms occurred against the backdrop of a general reduction in sown areas by 20% compared to the pre-war period. According to Serhiy Gedz, the cost of seeds in dollars over the past three years has increased by approximately 20%, and farmers have begun to invest in more resistant and more expensive hybrids to guarantee a harvest in conditions of climate risks.

At the same time, the expert noted that the high cost of growing technologies currently contrasts with the low purchase prices for finished products. In particular, due to overproduction, onions in southern Ukraine can be bought for 2.50 UAH/kg, which does not cover the cost of its production. A similar situation is observed in neighboring Poland, where the price of onions in the market is also about 2.50 UAH/kg in our money.
