Pakistan confirms sufficient wheat stocks and denies shortage reports
Pakistan has stated that the country holds sufficient wheat reserves to meet domestic demand, dismissing recent reports of an alleged shortage as baseless. Authorities emphasized that the national food security situation remains stable.
The federal government noted that ongoing procurement operations are expected to further strengthen buffer stocks in the coming weeks. It added that close coordination between federal and provincial authorities is ensuring stable supply and effective price management across all regions.
The Ministry of National Food Security and Research has instructed relevant departments to improve transparency in stock reporting. Officials also stressed the need for enhanced monitoring of market activity to prevent artificial price fluctuations.
These remarks were made during the 12th meeting of the National Wheat Oversight Committee, chaired by Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain. The meeting included senior ministry officials, provincial agriculture secretaries, and representatives of procurement agencies.
The committee reaffirmed the government’s commitment to balancing the interests of farmers and consumers, while maintaining market stability through coordinated procurement and distribution policies.
