Uzbekistan to purchase 2 mln tons of soybeans from the US over three years
On November 6, in Washington, President Donald Trump and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced Uzbekistan’s intention to invest billions of dollars in the United States and American companies, according to the US State Department.
The governments of Uzbekistan and the United States are working to advance comprehensive economic, security, and humanitarian cooperation in the interests of stability and prosperity for both countries.
President Trump welcomed the conclusion of multibillion-dollar agreements aimed at strengthening the US industrial base and ensuring the security of supplies of strategically important resources. These agreements demonstrate Uzbekistan’s commitment to investing in the American economy, as well as its participation in the historic purchase of American-made passenger aircraft.
The agreements provide for the joint development of mineral deposits, investments of up to $400 million in the US and Uzbekistan to strengthen supply chains for strategic and rare earth elements, and a commitment by Uzbekistan to purchase small modular reactors from US energy companies.
The parties also signed contracts for the purchase of 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft worth a total of $8.5 billion, which will contribute to the development of the American aviation industry.
Special attention is given to supporting American farmers and the agricultural sector. Uzbekistan has committed to importing agricultural machinery worth up to $2 billion, as well as purchasing up to two million tons of soybeans and 100,000 tons of cotton from the United States over three years.
Strengthening industrial cooperation includes the import of $5 billion in automotive components and the development of partnerships during the upcoming privatization of UzAuto Motors.
Air Products intends to invest up to $3 billion in the construction of a methanol plant in Uzbekistan. The parties will also accelerate the implementation of projects for methanol-olefin production, coal chemical plants, and other industrial facilities.
Uzbekistan announced the introduction of a 30-day visa-free regime for US citizens starting in 2026, which will create new economic and business opportunities.
The parties also agreed to expand cooperation in the security sector. The United States welcomed Uzbekistan’s commitment to regional peace. Law enforcement agencies of the two countries will exchange information to disrupt the activities of international criminal organizations and drug cartels.
Uzbekistan intends to strengthen regional structures that facilitate the fight against drug trafficking and enhance its border security by utilizing American equipment for law enforcement and defense agencies.
