USDA forecasts record global rapeseed crop of 100 mln tons

Global rapeseed production in 2026/27 could reach a record 100 mln tons, USDA forecasts in its report released on September 11, 2026. This is 4.4 mln tons higher than in the previous season.

Canada is expected to remain the largest producer with a crop of 22.5 mln tons. The EU is forecast to produce 20.1 mln tons of rapeseed, China 16.2 mln tons, and India 12.4 mln tons. Together, these four markets will account for more than 70% of global production.

USDA forecasts production at 7.8 mln tons in Australia and 7 mln tons in Russia. Ukraine’s rapeseed crop in 2026/27 is estimated at 4.3 mln tons, or around 4.4% of global production.

Global rapeseed exports in the new season are forecast at 19.9 mln tons, up 1.9 mln tons from 2025/26. Ending stocks could increase by 0.5 mln tons to 12.4 mln tons.

Despite higher production and stocks, the global stocks-to-use ratio is expected to edge down to 12.5% from 12.7% a season earlier. This indicates that growth in global rapeseed supply will be accompanied by higher consumption.
