USAID plans to invest about $250 million to restore and expand Ukraine’s agricultural sector

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced a new USAID Harvest program that will invest $250 million to restore and expand Ukraine’s agricultural sector. The program will last for 5 years.

This was announced by USAID Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman during the official opening of the project.

The program should increase agricultural exports from Ukraine by $1.5 billion and attract an additional $500 million in private investment in the agricultural sector. Farmers from all regions of Ukraine will receive funding under the Harvest program, but priority will be given to those affected by Russian aggression.

“While the ports on the Black Sea were blocked, we focused on increasing storage capacity and organizing alternative ways to export agricultural products. For our part, we do not regret the efforts made, as this is an investment in sustainability. With the reopening of the Black Sea ports and shipment volumes returning to pre-war levels, our focus is shifting to helping Ukraine increase productivity and value added to support economic growth, tax revenues, export earnings and job creation,” said Isobel Coleman.

She added that in 2022, USAID has allocated $1.5 billion for Ukraine under the AGRO program.
