US will take control of the Strait of Hormuz and protect it, but not for free – Trump
US President Donald Trump has said the US will take control of the Strait of Hormuz and secure it. He made the announcement on Fox News.
According to him, the US struck Iran with a very strong blow last night.
“Every time they send a drone, we hit them very hard. But we had an agreement. What nobody knows is that we had an agreement, it was a done deal. And then they broke it. They always break it. We’ve had 10 agreements with these people.
So we’re just going to hit them very hard. And we’re going to… we’re going to hold the strait, and we’re probably going to control it, we’re going to be the guardians of the strait. Maybe we’ll call it the Guardian Angel of the Strait,” Trump said.
The US leader noted that the States should be compensated for this.
“Because other countries are very rich, they’re on our side. And you can’t expect us to do it for free, like we’ve been doing for many years. You know, we’ve… we’ve been guarding the strait for 50 years or more. And we’ve never been paid for it. … We never made money… we guarded it for free. And now we will guard it, and we will be paid for guarding it, big money,” the US president added.
Earlier, media reported that the US had struck more than 100 sites in Iran after a missile attack on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz. Among the affected sites were missile and drone launch sites, ammunition depots and communications equipment.
Iran has announced a complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz to ships.
