US wheat exports in the MY 2026/27 have fallen by 35% from a year earlier to 6.7 mln tons. Weekly shipments have remained near five-year lows for almost a month, highlighting weak competitiveness of US wheat on the global market.

In the week ending October 1, the US exported around 0.3 mln tons of wheat. This was 10% lower week on week and 49% below the same period last year.

Asia remains the main destination for US wheat. Pacific ports handled around 250 thsd tons last week, accounting for 82% of total exports. At the same time, a strong US dollar continues to weigh on the competitiveness of American wheat.

Disruptions to Black Sea exports could create opportunities for US shipments to recover as importers seek alternative origins. Saudi Arabia, for example, recently purchased around 680 thsd tons of wheat.

So far, however, additional demand has benefited European suppliers more, supported by a weaker euro and shorter shipping distances to key importing markets. The US has yet to fully capitalize on reduced Black Sea supply.
