US cancels $700 mln in funding for bird flu vaccine development
The American company Moderna, known for developing one of the vaccines against coronavirus during the pandemic, was left without the promised $ 700 million from the US government for the development of preventive means against bird flu.
According to Reuters, the administration of Donald Trump has canceled the contract that was signed with the biotechnology corporation in January, during the presidency of Joe Biden.
In the United States, 70 cases of human infection with bird flu have been recorded over the past year. Experts say that the Moderna vaccine, the final stage of development of which was to be funded by public funds, would be one of the most effective and rapid means of curbing the disease in the event of an uncontrolled outbreak.
Robert Kennedy Jr., appointed by Trump to head the US Department of Health, is a well-known anti-vaxxer who has repeatedly publicly spread conspiracy theories about vaccines.
