US boosts purchases of Canadian canola products
Canadian canola oil exports posted solid growth in April, reaching their highest level in several months. The United States remained the key destination, continuing to increase imports amid tight vegetable oil supplies and strong demand from the biofuel sector. The U.S. market accounted for nearly all of the growth in Canada’s canola oil shipments.
A positive trend was also observed in the canola meal segment. Record levels of domestic canola crushing increased product availability, encouraging exporters to expand sales abroad. The United States remained the largest buyer of canola meal, steadily increasing purchases to meet the needs of its livestock industry.
Since the start of the 2025/26 marketing year, Canadian canola meal exports to the U.S. have surpassed last season’s levels and reached a record high. In addition to the U.S., demand for Canadian canola meal has increased significantly in several Asian and Oceania markets, including Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, and New Zealand.
Analysts expect strong demand for canola products to continue in the coming months. Export prospects are being supported by the expansion of U.S. biofuel programs and stable global demand for feed ingredients, which should help maintain high utilization rates at Canadian processing facilities throughout the new season.
