Ursula von der Leyen announces major free trade agreement between the EU and India
The European Union and India are preparing to conclude the largest bilateral free trade agreement in history, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said during her speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
According to her, the sides are approaching a “historic deal,” which some have already dubbed the “mother of all agreements” due to its potential scale and impact on global trade.
The agreement is expected to include significant tariff reductions, expanded market access for companies, and stronger economic cooperation between the EU and one of the world’s largest economies.
Earlier, the EU also signed a landmark trade deal with the Mercosur bloc, creating one of the world’s largest free trade areas — a move analysts view as a major geopolitical success and a signal of Brussels’ increasingly proactive global trade strategy.
