Ukraine’s spring oilseed market is entering the decisive stage of crop formation. Heat and moisture shortages remain the main risks for sunflower and soybean, although widespread damage has not been recorded yet. UkrAgroConsult notes that weather will define further production expectations.

The most sensitive stages remain flowering, reproductive development and seed filling. Weather maps and precipitation models indicate short-term relief, but rainfall may remain uneven and insufficient to restore soil moisture reserves.

Sunflower is more resistant to stress conditions, while soybean depends much more on moisture availability. Current production expectations stand at 12.9–13.6 M mt for sunflower and 4.7–5.6 M mt for soybean.

The market continues to follow a positive scenario, but another period of prolonged heat without rainfall could pressure production forecasts. Current adjustments already reflect crop sensitivity to weather developments.

According to UkrAgroConsult, the possible expansion of restricted production areas is another factor to watch. Combined risks may lead to a tighter supply and demand balance in the 2026/27 season.

Key trends

  • Weather during the second half of summer will be the key factor shaping final oilseed production potential.
  • Sunflower remains more resilient, while soybean faces higher yield risks due to moisture dependence.
  • Short-term weather improvement supports expectations but does not remove longer-term uncertainty.
  • Production forecast revisions show the market’s cautious approach to the current season.
  • A combination of weather and security risks could tighten the 2026/27 supply and demand outlook.
