Over the past five years, Ukraine’s rye seed market has increasingly shifted toward hybrids. According to Sviatoslav Kravchuk, product manager at Vilomix Ukraine, production is concentrated mainly in the north of the country, with regions stretching from Volyn to Sumy accounting for around 76% of Ukraine’s total rye area.

At the same time, rye is hardly grown in central and western regions. Polissia remains the most promising production area, where the crop is well suited to local soil and climate conditions and offers attractive profitability for farmers.

The domestic market situation could further support farmers’ interest in rye. Ukraine has virtually no carryover stocks this year, meaning prices could continue to rise or at least remain at current levels, according to the expert.
