Ukrainian farmers have sown 1.7 mln ha of grains
As of April 28, 2026, farmers in Ukraine continue an active spring sowing campaign. A total of 1.698 mln ha of spring cereals and pulses have already been sown by all categories of farms, accounting for 28% of the projected area, according to the Ministry of Economy.
In particular, sowing includes: spring wheat — 172.4 thsd ha, spring barley — 668.6 thsd ha, peas — 248.2 thsd ha, oats — 129.8 thsd ha, maize — 437.4 thsd ha, millet — 2.1 thsd ha.

Across regions, grain and legume crops dominate the structure of spring planting, with significant allocations to maize, barley, and wheat. In several areas, farmers continue to shift towards more profitable crops, particularly maize, reflecting market-driven planting decisions.
At the same time, industrial crop sowing is progressing. Sugar beet has been planted on 162.8 thsd ha (83% of the forecast), sunflower on 636.0 thsd ha (13%), and soybeans on 93.4 thsd ha (5%). Buckwheat sowing has also begun in Kharkiv region, currently at 0.01 thsd ha.
The agricultural ministry notes that the spring campaign is progressing steadily and broadly in line with seasonal plans, reflecting strong operational capacity across the sector.
