Ukrainian Embassy demands to punish those responsible for spilled Ukrainian grain in Poland

The Ukrainian embassy has responded to the incident with Ukrainian grain spilled on the roadway and demanded that the perpetrators be punished, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Zvarych wrote on Facebook.

“Such methods of protesters should not be tolerated in a European civilized country, not to mention the moral side of this provocation. Therefore, we demand that the perpetrators be found and brought to justice. The Polish authorities should respond decisively in the legal field to this shameful and offensive crime for Ukrainians and most Poles and prevent such barbaric actions in the future,” Zwarych emphasized.

According to him, the grain was poured out of Ukrainian tyres, which were sealed after the relevant customs procedures and were in transit to Lithuania. Zvarych noted that “Ukrainian diplomats are in direct contact with the drivers of the trucks in question.”

The ambassador reminded that after receiving information about the grain spilled by Polish farmers, the Embassy and Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin immediately appealed to the Polish police to open a case on the incident.

The Chełm police said that farmers protesting near the Dorohusk checkpoint stopped three Ukrainian trucks and poured grain from them directly onto the road. The Polish police launched an investigation into the incident.

On February 9, a farmers’ strike began in Poland, announced by the Solidarity trade union.

In addition to the ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine, Polish protesters oppose the European agricultural policy, in particular, the introduction of the “green system” – a number of environmental and climate requirements. Other demands include support for livestock farming.
