Ukrainian agrarians are offered to fix the volume of wheat exports in a memorandum
In the new marketing year, which will start in July, wheat producers and processors should consider returning to the practice of signing a memorandum on wheat export volumes to supply the domestic market.
This was stated by Taras Vysotskyi, Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, during the Bread Industry 2024 conference.
“Foreign markets are available for Ukrainian bakery producers, and there are ways to transport products to these markets, so it is important that there are prerequisites for domestic production. It is a matter of availability of raw materials and access to them.
He added that harvesting will begin in a month, and in the next marketing year, it is necessary to consider a potential return to the practice of signing a joint memorandum between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and market participants on the volume of wheat exports to supply the domestic market.
We are now balancing the balance sheet without critical carry-over balances, while at the same time we see a partial decline in wheat production. It will be absolutely enough for domestic consumption, but in our opinion, it is at least necessary to discuss this in order for processors to have predictability for the year. This will allow us to return to predictability and confidence in the availability of quality raw materials for production.
According to him, traditionally, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy signed the memorandum with producers and processors in August-September, when the yield and quality of wheat were clear.
