Ukraine’s tomato paste exports more than halve
Ukraine exported 29.3 thsd tons of tomato paste worth $30 mln in the MY 2025/26, ranking 12th among the world’s largest exporters of the product. Compared with the 2021/22 season, when shipments reached 62.18 thsd tons, export volumes declined by 52.9%. The figures were reported by EastFruit, citing Tomato News data.
Global tomato paste exports reached nearly 3.91 mln tons in 2025/26, up 76% from the 2006/07 season, when international trade totaled 2.22 mln tons. Despite the long-term expansion of the global market, Ukraine remains outside the top ten exporters due to a significant reduction in shipments compared with the pre-war period.
China remains the world’s leading tomato paste exporter, shipping 1.15 mln tons and accounting for approximately 29% of international trade. Italy ranked second with 798 thsd tons, representing 20% of global exports, followed by the United States with 359.6 thsd tons, or 9%. Spain and Portugal completed the top five, exporting 311 thsd tons and 233.8 thsd tons, respectively.
Other major suppliers included Chile (216.2 thsd tons), Iran (201.7 thsd tons), Turkey (137.6 thsd tons), Greece (73.5 thsd tons) and Egypt (55 thsd tons). Peru ranked 11th with exports of 50.3 thsd tons, exceeding Ukraine’s shipments by nearly 1.7 times.
The global tomato paste market remains highly concentrated, with the ten largest exporters accounting for approximately 91% of international shipments. Despite losing a significant share of its export volumes, Ukraine continues to participate in international trade in processed tomato products, although its share of global tomato paste exports currently stands at less than 1%.
