Ukrainian soyabean exports increased in 2024/25 despite the ongoing war and associated restrictions, while exports of sunflowerseed dropped sharply, according to US Department of Agriculture (USDA) data reported by Germany’s Union for the Promotion of Plants and Protein (UFOP).

Despite the ongoing war and associated restrictions, soyabean exports increased in the period to approximately 3.8M tonnes, around 538,000 tonnes higher than in the previous marketing year, the 7 August report said.

Export volumes were projected to increase further in 2025/26, reaching an estimated 4.2M tonnes.

Although Ukraine’s 2024/25 sunflowerseed harvest of 13M tonnes was approximately 2.5M tonnes smaller than the previous season’s, Ukraine remained the world’s second most important producer after Russia, ahead of the European Union (EU).

Sunflowerseed exports fell considerably year-on-year, dropping from 1.9M tonnes in 2022/23 to 230,000 tonnes in 2024/25.

According to USDA estimates, exports will remain at a low level in the ongoing season, totalling 250,000 tonnes.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s rapeseed exports for 2024/25 were estimated at 3.2M tonnes, according to research by Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft, falling short of the record 3.7M tonnes achieved the previous season.

The USDA projects 3.1M tonnes of exports for the ongoing marketing year, with export potential primarily limited by expectations of a smaller harvest.
