Ukraine will increase the harvest of tomatoes for processing
Tomato production for processing in Ukraine this year is expected to be 550 thousand tons. This is 17% more than what was harvested last year.
This forecast was made by the World Processing Tomato Council (WPTC), Tomato News writes.
It is expected that favorable weather conditions in Ukraine will allow to obtain 550 thousand tons of tomatoes. In 2025, experts predicted production at the same level, but the final figures turned out to be much lower (470 thousand tons).
WPTC experts note that weather conditions have slightly delayed the timing of planting tomatoes at major producers, but do not change the forecasts for the gross harvest in 2026. In particular, it is expected that world production of tomatoes for processing will be 39.8 million tons, which is less than last year’s figure (40.3 million tons). The top 10 producers are as follows:
- California (USA) — 8.89 million tons (-15.6% compared to last year);
- China — 5.92 million tons (+20.8%);
- Italy — 5.8 million tons (-0.7%);
- Spain — 2.75 million tons (+14.1%);
- Turkey — 2.45 million tons (+11.4%);
- Iran — 1.7 million tons (-5.6%);
- Brazil — 1.47 million tons (+2.1%);
- Portugal — 1.3 million tons (-0.4%);
- Chile — 1.3 million tons (-3%);
- Algeria — 1.3 million tons (unchanged).
