Ukraine to use more than 13 thsd grain bags for crop storage
Ukraine has managed to address the need for additional grain storage capacity that emerged amid export disruptions through the ports of Greater Odesa, Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotskyi said.
Earlier, Ukraine estimated that it could require around 11 mln tons of additional storage capacity. The relevant calculations were submitted to international partners, including the EU, in early August.
One of the key solutions will be the use of polymer grain bags for temporary crop storage. More than $15 mln in international assistance has already been confirmed for their purchase and free distribution to farmers, with Switzerland among the donors.
Farmers in frontline regions have submitted applications through the State Agrarian Register for more than 13,000 grain bags. According to Vysotskyi, the confirmed funding is sufficient to purchase the required quantity.
Distribution of the grain bags to farmers is expected to begin in October. The Agriculture Ministry expects this to ensure that the entire harvested crop can be stored while maintaining proper quality.
