Ukraine to keep promoting its refined sunflower oil on world markets

A record sunflower seed crop in Ukraine in MY 2018/19 (15.5 MMT) pushed up crush and sunflower oil production. The refining segment follows the general trends.

In MY 2018/19, output of refined sunflower oil reached a record (+7.4% from MY 2017/18). At the same time, despite increasing volumes of refining, its share in total sunoil production has shrunk to 11-12% from 16% seen eight seasons ago.

While stable domestic consumption, the gain in production of refined sunflower oil is aimed at the export market, therefore 2018/19 exports of this product reached a record high (+16% from MY 2017/18). The key export destinations include the EU (17% of total exports).

In the new 2019/20 season, Ukraine’s fat-and-oil sector has every capability to increase refining and exports, reports UkrAgroConsult.
