Ukraine takes another step toward exporting milk powder and poultry meat to Algeria

Ukraine has confirmed its readiness to host an Algerian inspection mission as soon as possible and provide all necessary conditions for the inspection of a milk powder production facility.

The issue was discussed during a meeting between Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Taras Vysotskyi, and Ahmed Ouail, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Ukraine and Moldova, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

Following the inspection, the two sides are expected to move forward with practical arrangements for supplying milk powder to the Algerian market. The inspection will mark the next stage of cooperation after the visit of representatives of Ukraine’s dairy industry and the competent authority to Algeria.

The meeting also focused on opening the Algerian market to Ukrainian meat products, particularly poultry meat and poultry products. Ukraine has already submitted a request to the Algerian authorities regarding import requirements, approval procedures, and the necessary veterinary certificates, and is currently awaiting an official response.

Algeria remains one of the world’s largest wheat importers, making stable wheat supplies from Ukraine an important factor for the country’s food security and that of the wider North African region.

Taras Vysotskyi informed the Algerian side that following the disruption of maritime exports caused by Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports, Ukraine is developing alternative supply routes while working to fully restore the maritime export corridor.

“Wheat is critically important for global food security. Despite the challenging situation, we will do everything possible to restore stable supplies and fulfill our long-term commitments. Ukraine will continue to be a reliable supplier of agricultural and food products,” Taras Vysotskyi said.

The parties agreed to continue coordination between their competent authorities, jointly develop logistics solutions, and expand access for Ukrainian agricultural products to the Algerian market.
