Ukraine restores the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, appoints Taras Vysotskyi as minister

Ukraine’s Parliament has restored the standalone Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and appointed Taras Vysotskyi as its minister. The decision was approved on July 16 during the formation of the country’s new Cabinet of Ministers.

The ministry was re-established following the division of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture into two separate central executive bodies — the Ministry of Economy and Ecology and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food. The restructuring had previously been proposed by Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.

One of the key reasons for restoring the ministry is the need to strengthen Ukraine’s agricultural track in the country’s European integration process.

“The main reason why the restoration of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy is being discussed is European integration. The agricultural sector accounts for around 30–40% of all legislative changes required under the EU integration agenda. After the merger of the three ministries, the agricultural sector effectively lost its dedicated management structure, while the workload only increased. The agriculture chapter has not yet been opened, so a separate institution is needed to take political responsibility for this area,” a government source previously told Latifundist.com.

Before his appointment, Taras Vysotskyi served as Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture. He previously held the position of First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and, in 2024, served as Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy.
