Ukraine prepares to impose sanctions against Syria over grain theft
Ukraine may impose sanctions against Syria, one of the reasons being the transportation of stolen Ukrainian grain on Syrian ships.
This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
“The participation of Syrian ships in the illegal export of grain from the occupied territory of Ukraine, the “recognition” of the so-called “DPR” and “LPR”, the supply of weapons to Russia, used in aggression against Ukraine, the comprehensive support of the Syrian leadership of the Putin regime. The list of unfriendly steps of the Syrian Arab Republic towards Ukraine can be continued. And our state, of course, reacts to them”, – said the first Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko.
She noted that sanctions have already been imposed against Bashar al-Assad and other leaders of Syria. Ukraine has severed diplomatic relations with the Syrian Arab Republic, terminates and cancels interstate treaties concluded in previous years. Sanctions against Syria are going to be imposed for fifty years. Thus, the issues of economic relations with Syria will be closed and for a long time.
Among other things, Ukraine plans to:
- restrict trade operations in terms of banning export-import operations with residents of Syria,
- to prohibit the entry of non-military ships and warships under the flag of Syria to the territorial sea of Ukraine, its internal waters, ports.
Recall that last year Syria sharply increased imports of wheat from temporarily occupied Crimea, which is a sign of increasing economic cooperation between the two countries.
