Ukraine plans to cut off all imports from Moldova in response to grain import restrictions
In response to the restrictions imposed by Moldova on Ukrainian agricultural exports, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is preparing a resolution to ban Moldovan imports.
This was stated by Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Trade Representative of Ukraine.
“We have informed Chisinau that any restriction by Moldova will be considered an extremely unfriendly step and will entail an immediate ban on all imports from Moldova,” Kachka said.
According to him, the introduction of such a ban has already been agreed upon and is being prepared.
As a reminder, at a meeting with Moldovan Agriculture Minister Vladimir Bola, Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine Mykola Solsky expressed disagreement with Chisinau’s decision to join the European Commission’s decision to restrict food imports from Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported that Moldova plans to impose temporary restrictions on imports of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine.
It should be noted that several EU countries first decided to suspend imports of certain Ukrainian food products on their own. This happened after farmers in a number of EU countries protested against duty-free imports of Ukrainian grain, which led to a decrease in their income.
Later, imports of such goods to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia were banned at the European Commission level. Wheat, corn, rapeseed, and sunflower seeds of Ukrainian origin were subject to restrictions. Food transit through these countries remained unaffected.
