2021/22 oil flax harvest reached a record high for the last four seasons due to oil flax planted area expanded almost in all regions.
Oil flax has been traditionally produced for exports. In 2021/22 MY, the export share in the oil flax total production increased up to 83%.
Russia imposed an oil flax export tax of 20%, from May 1 to August 31, 2022. Kazakhstan reduced oil flax exports by 11% in the 2021/22.
Linseed exports in 2021/22 MY are expected to be record high from 2017/18 MY.
As for 2022/23 season, reduction of areas under the influence of a key factor – the war: 32% of the sown area is located in the occupied territories. Sown area is record low.
At the same time, current weather conditions give a good ground to expect a high yield.
Oil flax export potential will depend on demand from the EU countries, as well as new logistics corridors.
