2021 marks 30 years of NIBULON’s activities filled with records, achievements, successes, and new discoveries. During the coronavirus crisis, the company has shown that it has the potential to do business efficiently even during this difficult time.
Ukraine. NIBULON reached multiple records in 2021
The company operated comprehensively and persistently and not only safely but also efficiently. We inspired Ukraine by achieving records for cargoes transported by water, demonstrating achievements in shipbuilding and agricultural commodity production, and establishing new trading relations with other countries. The company’s most modern fleet operated efficiently. NIBULON helped the healthcare sector to fight COVID-19.
We persistently develop Ukraine’s economy, continue to move forward to make Ukraine a marine state. And today, on New Year’s Eve, we recollect the most important achievements and events in 2021.
The revival of the Dnipro and the Southern Buh
NIBULON’s shipping company transported 25 million tons of cargoes by Ukrainian rivers, thereby removing the equivalent of more than 1 million trucks from Ukrainian highways. These are real and impressive achievements arising from the company’s large-scale investment project to revive the Dnipro and the Southern Buh as transport arteries.
The company does much to increase the potential of Ukrainian rivers. In March, NIBULON was the first to open navigation on the Dnipro in the 2021 navigation season.
In the 2020/21 marketing year, the company set a record for cargoes transported by inland waterways – about 4.3 million tons of various cargoes, such as grain, metal, coal, building materials, Kherson watermelons, as well as large-sized cargoes.
The company plans to transport 5 million tons per year. Consequently, the company has already increased its logistics capacities and exceeds its previous achievements.
A leader in cargo transshipments in the outer roads
As a result of the efficient operation of the company’s most modern fleet comprising 80 vessels used for various operations, NIBULON transshipped 3.48 million tons of agricultural commodities in the outer roads of Mykolaiv Sea Port.
NIBULON’s high-capacity floating cranes achieved high results. NIBULON MAX transshipped 5 million tons of products for two years of operation. St. Mykolai has shipped 10 million tons of products for 8 years.
The company’s fleet is constantly increased. Today the company can transship 6 million tons in the outer roads annually, which exceeds the capacity of its transshipment terminal in Mykolaiv. The company expects to set new records.
A new level of shipbuilding
In November, NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard LLC and OCEA officially signed an agreement to build 5 OCEA FPB 98 MKI fast patrol boats as part of the government project to strengthen Ukraine’s maritime safety and security. This event is an important and a serious step to develop the shipyard and to protect Ukraine’s borders. It is a pleasure that OCEA chose NIBULON as the only contractor with the required experience and technologies to build boats in Ukraine. This choice was made considering that the shipyard has modern capacities and a highly qualified team.
NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard LLC improves its operation by building more compleх vessels, increases its capacities and masters new technologies. In 2021, the shipyard successfully confirmed its integrated management system certification in compliance with the international standards, as well as built 100-m modernized vessels (B500M project).
A reliable supplier of a modern fleet for Ukrainian companies
As part of the financing program organized together with OTP Leasing, NIBULON sold two non-self-propelled NBL-90 project vessels to Asket Shipping, the largest port operator on the grain forwarding market. It has become an important landmark for our market, when a Ukrainian company sells its own modern vessels built from Ukrainian metal by Ukrainian shipbuilders to other Ukrainian companies to develop navigation.
Thus, the number of followers increases, which means that more modern Ukrainian vessels will soon navigate Ukrainian rivers, rather than outdated ones which damage the environment and people’s health. This step opens new opportunities for NIBULON’s partners and clients to develop an efficient logistics. More cargoes will be redirected to rivers, and the country’s economy will be developed.
Opening of new export markets
NIBULON is a leader among Ukrainian agricultural commodity exporters during many years, playing one of the key roles in ensuring world food security. The company exports its products to more than 75 countries worldwide and continues to establish new trading relations. Due to the successful efforts of the trading department, Bulgaria appeared on the map NIBULON’s exports. The company shipped sunflower seeds to this country for the first time in its history. NIBULON shipped high-quality wheat to Saudi Arabia, which is known as the main barley market. NIBULON started negotiations to ship rapeseed to Great Britain, after having exported corn to this country in 2014.
In the 2020/21 marketing year, NIBULON exported 4.6 million tons of Ukrainian grain. The last five years have been the best in the company’s history.
Half a million tons of grain by railway
NIBULON has revolutionized logistics. The company does much to preserve Ukrainian roads. Its facilities are located in most regions of Ukraine, and all the cargoes from them are delivered to Mykolaiv by water. The company transports cargoes by railway in those areas where it is impossible to use water transport. The company’s modern railcar fleet proved its efficient operation, having transported half a million tons of grain by railway in almost two years, thereby releasing the equivalent of more than 7 thousand trucks.
Agrarian records
The company has achieved leading yield with a gross harvest of 334 thousand tons. The highlights of the 2021 season were a record yield of winter crops of 46,2 dt/ha and the best sunflower yield of 51,1 thousand tons. Food cargoes comprise 95% of wheat harvested.
