Ukraine meets conditions to open three agricultural chapters in EU accession talks
Ukraine has fulfilled all the necessary conditions to open three agricultural chapters within the fifth cluster of EU accession negotiations and is now awaiting a political decision. Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotskyi said this during a briefing in Brussels.
According to him, Ukraine has already completed the screening process, provided the EU with all the required information, received the relevant benchmarks and prepared action plans for their implementation. There are currently no outstanding technical requirements on the Ukrainian side for opening the agricultural chapters.
Vysotskyi stressed that the delay in opening the negotiation clusters is not related to Ukraine failing to meet its commitments. Further progress depends on a political decision by EU member states as part of the broader accession process.
The fifth negotiation cluster, “Resources, Agriculture and Cohesion,” covers five chapters. Three of them are directly related to the agricultural sector — agriculture, food safety and fisheries.
Opening these chapters would allow Ukraine and the EU to move to more detailed negotiations on aligning Ukrainian agricultural legislation and regulatory systems with EU rules. Ukraine is currently awaiting a decision on formally launching this stage of the talks.
